Come and visit us to get an idea of what usethings is about. It’s an experiment in conscious consumption – a new kind of retail (or is it old…) an installation… a showroom full of stories. A bit like a farmers market for products where you can have a connection with the people who make the stuff you buy. For more on the concept of our store have a look at “a new kind of retail”
We are focused on useful things…
You’ll find usethings designed and made:
- clothes drying racks
- coat racks
- all ply table
- alien stools
- cutting boards
- darning mushrooms
- nosey parka wall pegs
- Tensegrity wardrobe
- wobble boards
And other useful things:
- Opinel folding knives (since 1890)

- Opinel paring knives
- Duralex Provence drinking glasses (why would you have any other)
- Emeco Navy 111 recycled plastic chair ( 111 PET drink bottles in each chair)
- Aladdin Stanley stainless steel wide mouth thermos (lifetime guarantee)
- locals Ron-D-Swan reclaimed canvas satchels, panniers, firewood slings, leg bands, and the excellent laptop sleeve
- Fowlers Vacola preserving jars (keeping food before energy hungry refrigeration)
- Jute shop twine
- Local Phil Elson porcelain noodle bowls and tumblers
- Diamond sharpeners
There is a great story behind all these items, that’s why we selected them.
Also come to one of our workshops – sharing useful skills at the store Saturday afternoons.
We are at 8 Templeton St Castlemaine in central Victoria, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Or make an appointment for other times, even at short notice as we are usually not far away. We don’t have any credit card or EFTPOS facility.
